Proteus operates under a duty-to-protect obligationsimilar to that of licensed mental health professionals. This obligation is recognized under Israeli law (Patients' Rights Law 5756-1996, §18), US case law (Tarasoff v. Regents, and equivalent state statutes), and EU ethical guidelines for AI in healthcare.

If the AI detects conversational patterns that may indicate a risk to your life or the life of another person— including expressions of suicidal ideation, self-harm, or intent to harm others — the platform is obligated to alert the Proteus safety team. This alert may include the relevant portion of the conversation, your account email, and the timestamp. This is not optional and cannot be disabled.

By using Proteus, you explicitly acknowledge and consent to this safety monitoring. If you are in immediate danger, do not wait — contact emergency services now:

1. About This Service

Proteus is an AI-powered emotional support platform designed to help people experiencing PTSD symptoms and related mental health challenges. The service is operated by Proteus Ltd. Proteus is not a medical device, therapy service, or crisis intervention service. It is a supplementary emotional support tool.

2. Eligibility

  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You must provide accurate registration information.
  • You may not create accounts on behalf of others without their explicit written consent.
  • Users in jurisdictions where this service is not permitted are not authorized to use it.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Attempt to manipulate, jailbreak, or extract the AI system's instructions.
  • Use the platform for any unlawful purpose.
  • Impersonate another person or provide false information.
  • Attempt to disable or circumvent the safety monitoring systems.
  • Share your account credentials with any third party.

4. Safety Monitoring & Duty to Warn

Proteus implements automated safety monitoring consistent with the ethical obligations of licensed mental health professionals in Israel, the United States, and the European Union. This includes:

  • Detection of language patterns associated with suicidal ideation or self-harm.
  • Detection of expressed intent to harm another person.
  • Automated alerts to Proteus's trained safety team when such patterns are identified.
  • Where legally required, cooperation with emergency services or authorities.

This monitoring is a core safety feature and cannot be disabled. It reflects the same duty-to-warn obligations that govern licensed psychologists and psychiatrists. Your use of this service constitutes informed consent to this monitoring.

5. Minute Packages & Usage

Proteus operates on a prepaid minute-bundle model. There are no recurring subscriptions and no automatic renewals. Users purchase packages of access minutes (e.g., 10, 45, or 90 minutes) at a fixed price.

  • Expiry: Purchased minutes expire 30 days from the date of purchase. Unused minutes are forfeited upon expiry.
  • Disclosure: Expiry terms are displayed prominently on the purchase page, in the order confirmation email, and in your personal dashboard.
  • Free trial: New users receive 7 free trial minutes. Trial minutes expire 7 days after account creation and are non-transferable.
  • Session continuity: Sessions in progress are never interrupted. If your balance reaches zero during a session, Proteus will guide the conversation to a respectful close. No new session may begin if your balance is zero.
  • Session data: Session recordings are not stored. Only session metadata (date, duration, message count) is retained for continuity and progress tracking.

By completing a purchase, you acknowledge that you have read and understood the expiry terms stated on the purchase page. EU users: access to digital content begins immediately upon purchase; by completing your purchase you consent to immediate delivery and acknowledge the applicable right of withdrawal terms set out in the Refund Policy.

6. Intellectual Property

All platform content, design, AI systems, and technology are owned by Proteus Ltd. You retain ownership of personal information you provide, subject to the Privacy Policy and the safety monitoring provisions above.

7. Limitation of Liability

Proteus is provided "as is." We are not liable for damages arising from reliance on AI-generated responses, emotional outcomes, technical interruptions, or decisions made based on the service. Maximum liability is limited to the amount paid for the active minute package at the time of any claim. This limitation applies to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law in Israel, the US, and the EU.

8. Account Termination

You may delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend accounts that violate these terms. Upon deletion, your personal data is removed within 30 days. Safety-related alert records may be retained for a longer period where legally required.

9. Changes to These Terms

Material changes will be communicated by email. Continued use after notice constitutes acceptance. For significant changes, we will require renewed explicit consent.

10. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Israel. Users in the EU retain rights under applicable EU consumer protection law. US users retain rights under applicable federal and state law. Disputes will first be referred to mediation; unresolved disputes shall be brought before the courts of Tel Aviv, Israel.
